WORLD CLASS CHAMBER MUSIC

Music from Angel Fire celebrates its 27th Season of presenting exquisite, world class chamber music in the beauty and seclusion of Northern New Mexico's spectacular mountain communities of Angel Fire, Taos, Raton and Las Vegas. Beginning August 20 and continuing through September 5, international artists including pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, flutist Tara Helen O’Connor, violinists Ida and Ani Kavafian, and cellist Peter Wiley will perform 15 exciting concerts featuring the great works of the Classical, Romantic, Baroque and Contemporary masters.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Two intimate pre-season fundraising events are planned for August 14 at Robertson and Sons Violin Shop in Albuquerque and August 18 at El Monte Sagrado in Taos.

Programs this year will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth. This anniversary inspired the concept of the broader theme of our Festival Season: The Liepzig Romantics - The Relationship between Clara and Robert Schumann and their protégè, Brahms, one of the greatest love stories of all time. This season celebrates the music of these three spectacular titans of music.

Festival Artistic Director Ida Kavafian will host two special Musical Conversations at the United Church of Angel Fire on August 22 and September 2. Other program highlights will include the favorite Salon Concert on August 29 where artists strut their stuff in an informal setting with unique repertoire, followed by the annual Benefit Southwestern Art Auction and an all Baroque Concert on September 1 to be presented at the Taos Community Auditorium.

In addition to brilliant performances of the world’s most beautiful music, the Festival will present the Closer Encounters Series on August 20 and August 25 at 11:00 AM. Offering a ‘behind the scenes’ look, this series will provide a fun opportunity to learn more about music and to interact with artists in an open rehearsal setting.
